During our Brand Design class our teacher asked us to compare two brands for a generic product. I chose two different brands of chocolate sprinkles. De Ruijter and Venz. My personal preferences goes out to De Ruijter. You can see why by the comparison I made:

When you look at the differences between the logo's and the packaging of the two Brands there's a clear difference. In comparison, Venz's packaging is busier and uses more bright colors and cartoons. De Ruijter's packages are simple and give a more authentic feeling. This way they also radiate reliability and give us the impression of a brand that's been on the market for a long time. Venz seems like a more modern brand, one that doesn't exist as l0ng as De Ruijter does.

In reality, both brands originate from the 19th century. De Ruijter is an older brand but both brands are older than a hundred years. For me, this was a surprise with the Venz brand.

Both brands describe their history on their website and I combined this with an image of their old packaging:

"C.R. de Ruijter opened in 1860 a confectionery in Brinkstraat in Baarn and started production and sales of "geboorte muisjes"."

"It all started with Hendrik de Vries late 19th century. In 1890 he started in Amsterdam wholesale chocolate and sugar confectionery."

Besides the difference in "time-feel" there's also a big difference in their target audience. The most extreme example can be found in their commercials:

Venz clearly tries to sell their product to kids while De Ruijter focusses more on adults.
