The Vedanta logo is designed for the final project of a classmate of mine, Sjoerd.

(Link to his Dutch website here)

He designed a speaker and needed a company name and logo which would fit with the product and his persona. I asked him some questions about what he was looking for and took a look at the product he designed. He was looking for a logo that was a combination between vintage and fancy because this would also make up the character of the product. With the logo he wanted his costumers to feel at home but at the same time know they had something of good quality. I tried to radiate this by making the logo look like it's painted with a brush. This feels casual but also shows skill. I choose the golden color to emphasize some more on the good quality and make it feel a bit more fancy.

The name Vedanta comes from Hindu philosophy and literally means, the end of Vedas (or the end of knowledge/wisdom). We choose to use this name as a company name mostly because of the way we interpreted the meaning of the word. Whether our interpretation is correct or not we thought it really fitted the product. In our mind the end of Vedas had to do with an ultimate reality, the "end of all knowledge" as in a way of there's nothing more left to learn, this is it. And we drew a connection with sound. There's a limit to how good something can sound, if you can make a speaker produce sounds as you would experience them in real life so to say, that's where your limit is located. We wanted to use the name Vedanta as a name and a company goal at the same time, to find the Vedanta of sound so to say.

The elephant used as logo was something the designer mentioned himself. Elephants are often placed in relation with sound or music (Think of Vladimir Kush's painting "The sound of nature"), so that was the first reason why we choose to use an elephant. After coming up with the name Vedanta it fit even better. Because the name Vedanta is linked to Hinduism and in Hinduism, the elephant is a sacred animal. It is considered the representation or the living incarnation of Ganesh, one of the most important gods within the religion.

Hopefully I will soon be able to add some pictures of the speaker Sjoerd designed so you can give your opinions as to how well the logo works with the design. For now I can only provide you with this short explanation.
