The shopcar for Philips Healthcare was made during my internship at the company in 2015/2016.

The goal of the project was to make a cart that functioned as a portable workstation. At Philips Healthcare they wanted to create more space by getting rid of all desks and big monitors. They wanted to replace these by making flexible work-spaces which would posses a standard set of tools and a flat, touchscreen monitor. It was my responsibility to design a cart for these workplaces which would be customizable according to the task they were needed for.

The frame (Picture 1-3):

The frame has been made of an aluminum extrusion profile which has grooves to mount the different compositions on to. These compositions can be changed easily because of special "stones" inside the grooves onto which the compositions are mounted on with screws. This way, for example, it's really easy to change the hight of each shelf. The inlays on top of the shelfs aren't fastened to the cart, this way these are also easily interchangeable.

The worksheet (Picture 4 & 5)

The worksheet on the shopcar can actually slide into it right next to the trashcans. This way it wont be in your way when the cart has to be re-positioned or transported to another location.

The foam inlays (Picture 6 & 7)

The foam inlays inside of the drawers are used to protect small fragile items and to store cables in a orderly manner. Every inlay will be numbered for specific products.

Overall this product design was a big succes and Philips Healthcare would've produced several of them for their work spaces if producing them wasn't so expensive.  The prototype had only some minor faults which would be easily fixable. The company now uses my report of the project as an example for future interns and my school told me the report I wrote might even be of a higher standard than is required for my education.

This has been the project and product I am most proud of today. I'm really glad I got the opportunity to work for Philips Healthcare.
